Selection for a traineeship in the Banque de France Climate Change Centre

Please note that the content and the date of the challenge have changed as of 13 March 2024. The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) today gathers more than 130 central banks and supervisors, from five continents, that on a voluntary basis get together to share best practices and contribute to the development of climate and environmental risk management in the financial sector, and to mobilize mainstream finance to support the transition toward a sustainable economy. The Secretariat of the NGFS is hosted by Banque de France in its Climate Change Centre. The NGFS has been developing climate scenarios for several years, exploring the implications of climate change and the transition towards net zero. Beyond climate, central banks and supervisors are now exploring nature-related risks. The proposed challenge consists of writing a note of about two to three pages answering the following questions: - While governments are mainly responsible for public policy aiming at fighting climate change and nature degradation, why are also central banks and supervisors interested in those issues ? - What are some examples of synergies and trade-offs between climate change mitigation policies and nature protection policies ? - What would you recommend as first steps for developing nature-related scenarios ? An interview for a paid traineeship for 4-6 months at Banque de France, starting date is flexible.
